Artist Statement

In my work I strive to give expression to emotions and ideas without being explanatory.  Relinquishing my view of what pieces should mean is an important part of allowing them to carry their own significance for each person.  Some bodies of work are promoted by specific issues, such as dementia or poor housing, others by purely visual phenomenon like the fall of light on frosted grass or a fragile shell on a beach.

I work predominantly with kiln formed glass, assembling sheet, crushed and powdered glass and fusing it in my kiln in high temperature processes that allow me to create solid glass that can be flat or further shaped in more firings.  I am constantly fascinated by discovering what is possible and how to work effectively within my limited resources.

I work in my studio almost every day, always seeking the satisfaction of a well made object that speaks to me in often surprising ways.  I still have aspirations for works and ways of expressing myself that I have not achieved, and the hunt is endlessly fascinating.
